Oregon/SW Washington Chapter is holding its second annual Building a Better Journalist conference Oct. 25 at Allen Hall, University of Oregon, Eugene. Stephen Engelberg, former editor of The Oregonian and now Managing Editor of Propublica.org, is the featured speaker. Come learn more about emerging business models in the news industry. Cost is $20 for SPJ members, $30 for nonmembers, $10 for students with ID. We provide lunch. See www.spjoregon.org for details. The chapter plans to award up to five $100 travel scholarships for working journalists traveling 100 or more miles.
