Congratulations to Steve Geimann, Winner of the SDX-DC Helen Thomas Typewriter Auction.

Helen Thomas donated her portable typewriter to the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation of Washington, D.C. to raise money for the SDX/DC scholarship fund.

(For those who are younger than 45 years old, a portable typewriter is what many in the journalism profession used before laptop computers.)

Helen took this typewriter with her on just about every presidential trip she covered in the 1960s and 1970s. More stories of historic importance were probably written on that typewriter than any other single machine.

And now the happy owner is long-time SPJ activist Steve Geimann. (Let's face it, his work for the SPJ would take too long to fairly list here.)

Steve said he will turn around and offer the typewriter for auction again. So stay tuned.
