Tucson-only clothing store continues to provide friendly customer service and favorable environment for customers young and old after almost 50 years of being on University Boulevard.
Landmark Clothing & Shoes has been privately owned and operated since 1959. Mort Edberg, co-owner of the store and a University of Arizona alumnus, said the customer service his store provides makes it unique.

Marianne Ring, a first-time shopper, said she had a great first experience.
Ring, who needed a new pair of shoes, was attracted to the sale the store was having. Referrals from friends also encouraged her, she said.
“I have heard good things about the store from (UA) students. Looking around, everything seems top quality,” Ring said.
Ring said she doesn’t like malls because they are not typically as knowledgeable or as friendly. She received excellent service while shopping at Landmark, she said.
Their customer service is not the only thing that sets them apart. The brands they carry also distinguish them from the rest of the outfitters on University.
Tom Sloyan, 55 goes to Landmark to pick up particular products like Polos with pockets, Bass Weejuns and Birkenstock Sandals.
Sloyan originally began shopping at Landmark because his parents were trying to find a coat for him. He was taller than average at a height of 6-feet-6-inches tall. They could not find one that fit him, but Landmark had just what they needed.
The store carries a variety of clothing lines–21 different brands in all. Their merchandise is mostly geared toward the college demographic.
Landmark carries popular brands like Polo-Ralph Lauren, Birkenstock, Timberland, Dr. Martens, Quicksilver, Lucky Brand, Oakley, Rusty and Rainbow Sandals, among others. According to the owners, they are the only clothing store on University to carry the Polo-Ralph Lauren brand.
Edberg said that some customers have quite a history with the store. One man has shopped there since 1970, and continues to shop there quite frequently.
“Their longevity shows that they’re a good place to shop. They have a great location and they cater to everybody,” Sloyan said, “I have been shopping there ever since I was 17…I’m 55 now.”
The store takes special orders if they do not carry the right size, or a particular item is not available at the store.
“The service is great and it’s like family” Sloyan said.
Landmark Clothing & Shoes is located on the corner of Tyndall Avenue and University Boulevard at 876 E. University Blvd.
