Associated Press Internship Program
What is it?
A highly-selective, 12-week, individually tailored training program for students who are aspiring print, photo, graphics, broadcast, and multimedia journalists.
Am I eligible?
You are if you are a full-time junior, senior, or grad student at an American college or university when you apply.
How many interns are selected?
Up to 22 interns are selected.
What are the highlights of the program?
You get to work in an AP bureau under the supervision of a designated trainer. You get paid. And if you complete the program successfully, you are offered a news position at AP.
When does the program start?
Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending on your schedule.
What do you need from me?
-A regular application package
-A timed newswriting test
-A 300-word autobiographical essay on why you are interested in the internship, AP, and journalism as a career
A resume, with clips
An interview with an AP chief of bureau
Photos and broadcast applicants are also required to submit samples of their work.
How do I apply?
Contact your nearest AP bureau and say you want to apply for the Internship Program. The AP will schedule a date for you to apply and test, on a weekday between now and November 15th, 2002
