SPJ South Florida and the Florida College Press Association (FCPA) are hosting this Labor Day weekend called “Will Write for Food.”

May 9, 2010

SPJ South Florida and the Florida College Press Association (FCPA) are hosting this Labor Day weekend called “Will Write for Food.” They will select student writers, photographers, designers and multimedia journalists to help take over a homeless newspaper.

SPJ and FCPA student members can receive travel money to South Florida over Labor Day weekend, where they'll eat for free and stay for free at a hotel only a couple of miles from the ocean. In exchange, they'll work in a homeless shelter, seizing editorial control of the nation's second-largest homeless newspaper -– The Homeless Voice.

Check out last year’s program: www.spjchapters.org/southflorida/homeless

It's a hell of a clip and a great war story for a job or internship interview. Last year, one student had his report picked up by CNN.
This program is for students in all of SPJ's Region 3, which covers Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Please forward this to students you know who may be interested. We are also accepting applications from recent graduates.

Applications are due June 1.: http://www.spjchapters.org/southflorida/homeless2010/apply.html

Any questions? Just holler. Thanks for spreading the word to your students and friends!
