Second WednesdaysP.J. Corkery made headlines in recent months when he filed a $2.4 million wrongful-termination lawsuit against San Francisco Examiner publisher Florence Fang and her company, ExIn. Corkery became the sole practitioner of the "three-dot" city column genre when the Examiner was purchased from Hearst Corp. by the Fang family in 2000. The Examiner terminated most of its staff in a cost-cutting move on Feb. 21 and became a free-distribution daily. The local wag is our special guest for June's mixer, where attendees can meet, mix and mingle with Corkery and other local journalists, gratis. New Delhi, located at 160 Ellis St., just a few blocks from the Powell St. Muni and Bart station, is our host for the evening. The restaurant and bar's generous owner, Ranjan Dey, is providing SPJ's Second Wednesdays with a few free appetizers. As always, admission is free and the bar is non-hosted. Please feel free to thank New Delhi's staff for their hospitality by staying for dinner. SPJ's Second Wednesdays: The Bay Area Journalists Mixer is a free monthly event held on the second Wednesday of each month, and features special guests and convivial company. The mixer is brought to you by the Northern California chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Media Alliance, a nonprofit training and resource center for media workers, community organizations and political activists, is co-sponsoring the mixer this month. To help us estimate turnout, please R.S.V.P. to Joyce Slaton at jslaton@rcn.com. To be notified of upcoming mixers, email Bernice Yeung at bernice.yeung@sfweekly.com.
