23RD ANNUAL EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM COMPETITION

This is the 23rd annual Excellence in Journalism Awards competition sponsored by the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The awards honor Northern California journalists who best reflect the SPJ ideals of initiative, integrity talent and compassion in their work.

To ensure that our judges can give your work proper consideration, please read and follow the instructions carefully.  Hard-copy submission guidelines are found on a separate PDF. The following instructions and form are designed for electronic submissions for our print categories. Any incomplete or improperly completed applications risk delays and possible disqualification if we cannot get them to judges in time. A nomination letter for these awards are not required, but always welcomed.

There are also five special awards selected by the chapter Board of Directors, and you can nominate candidates in any or all of these categories:

  1. Journalist of the Year
  2. Career Achievement
  3. Distinguished Service
  4. Unsung Hero
  5. Meritorious SPJ Service. (A nomination letter is required.)

All entries must be postmarked or time-stamped by Friday, Aug. 1, 2008. We have added an electronic pay option this year; please clearly identify the name used to make the e-payment so it can be matched to your submission.

We look forward to seeing your best work.

Sincerely,

Linda Jue
President
