The Journalism Department of San Francisco State University will host a special screening of “Race to Execution,” a provocative PBS documentary examining racial discrimination and the capital punishment system, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27. The screening, free and open to the public, will be followed by a panel discussion with Rachel Lyon, the Emmy-award winning filmmaker who produced the documentary; Claire Cooper, a veteran legal affairs reporter who has covered death penalty cases; and Aundre Heron, a death penalty attorney. Dori Maynard, president of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, will moderate.
The program will be held in Room 609 of San Francisco State University’s Downtown Campus, Westfield San Francisco Centre, 835 Market Street, 6th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. It will begin with a reception, and the screening will start at 7 p.m.
The event is cosponsored by the Maynard Institute, the Center for Integration and Improvement of Journalism and the Institute for Justice & Journalism.
