They serve best who serve the truth.

The Kansas City Press Club assists students who desire to make journalism their career, and who in their school have shown promise and talent, by offering annual scholarships to journalism and communications students at schools selected by the board of directors.

The scholarship is paid directly to the school to be applied to the student’s tuition and/or fees.

To be eligible a student must meet standards set forth each year by the scholarship committee. Those standards shall be designed to assure the recipients have compiled good academic records, show genuine promise of a successful career in journalism as defined by the Society and whose educational progress would be furthered by the awards.

Nominations may be submitted to the president, before May 1 each year. The nominations may be made by the head of the journalism department of each school and/or the chapter advisor of the undergraduate chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Such nominations should include pertinent information on the nominee’s qualifications.

Awards will be announced at a regular or special meeting of the chapter.

If in any year the scholarship committee believes there are no qualified candidates or if any school fails to submit its nominee or nominees by the deadline established by the committee, or if there ar insufficient funds in the Scholarship Fund account, the committee may pass any of the awards for that year. In the event an award is passed an explanation of the reasons should be included in the committee’s report.
