SPJ Detroit Honors Top Journalists DETROIT, June 19 – Jack Kresnak of the Detroit Free Press was named “Journalist of the Year” by the Detroit Chapter Jim Schaefer and Joe Swickard received the Wade H. McCree Jr. Award, at the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame dinner at MSU last evening. The award is given by the State Bar of Michigan. It's Jim's second McCree win. Jim is an SPJ Detroit board member. Congrats, Jim. George Puscas, a longtime Detroit Free Press columnist and sports editor died Friday, April 25th at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac. He was 81. Puscas won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Detroit chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 2007. He is survived by his wife Delphine of 57 years, four children and six grandchildren. |
