First Amendment and Journalism Awareness Event
"Where would we be without journalism?"

When: Tuesday, April 6, 4 to 7 p.m.
Where: University Club in the Lory Student Center of Colorado State University

Journalism has long been called the fifth pillar of society, one of the many checks and balances on our government and the watchdog of democracy. Great change has come from the work of journalists over the decades, and without their diligence, aspects of society -- the good and the bad -- would likely go unnoticed and forgotten.

Watergate, the Pentagon Papers, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Haiti, Hiroshima -- all of these events define American and global history. And in remembering these historical records of humanity, we need to ask ourselves: Where would we be without journalism?

Join the Society of Professional Journalists at CSU as they celebrate journalism and the right to freedom of speech.

The night will feature speakers from the journalism community, an exhibit featuring articles that have transformed society, a silent auction with proceeds going to SPJ professional development and the Student Legal Defense fund, a video and more.

Funding for the event is provided by the SPJ Colorado Professional chapter and SPJ national.
